Entry for the Harbourfront Public Furniture competition, celebrating Hong Kong’s rich maritime heritage through a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Chinese junk boat. Designed as a symbolic ‘playscape,’ the installation merges public seating with storytelling, inviting community engagement while honouring the naval icons of Victoria Harbour.
The lightweight, sail-inspired form offers ergonomic seating and playful thresholds, with a woven dichroic nylon net acting as the main sail. This flexible space accommodates diverse uses—from outdoor cinema to pop-up events—while integrated bike parking promotes wellness and sustainable transport.
Rooted in principles of sustainability and adaptive reuse, Victoria Vessel is designed for longevity, able to be relocated or reassembled for future contexts. It offers a tranquil, interactive social node—an evolving tribute to the harbour's legacy and a benchmark for public furniture design in Hong Kong.
